Come April 1, 2014, cosmetics giant, Shiseido will have new leadership in the form of 59-year-old Masahiko Uotani. Described as having “world level” marketing strategies, the beauty brand hopes this will push sales which have seen a slowdown this year.
“Mr. Uotani is the most suitable person to helm Shiseido in the future, as he is equipped with high level of marketing ability as well as strong leadership, not to mention the experience in global business field,” stated Shiseido.
The current CEO, Shinzo Maeda will step aside come next June and be kept as a consultant. Maeda had only assumed the position in March this year after the former president resigned over health reasons.
Described as an outsider to the Shiseido brand, Uotani appointment is deemed to be a first. Before he was appointed as an advisor to the beauty brand, he was the president of Coca-Cola (Japan) Co.
