Material World: Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Ceragold

The biggest news to emerge from Omega this year isn’t a specific product, but rather a key development in material engineering: Ceragold, applied to the bezels of Omega’s iconic (and devilishly handsome) Seamaster Planet Ocean collection, which includes automatic chronograph and three-hand versions. The technology used to create Ceragold allows, for the first time, the growth and bonding of 18K gold to ceramic. It’s all in an effort to boost the durability and appearance of the bezel, the part that receives the brunt of wear and tear, especially on a diver’s watch. The days of lacerated bezels are well and truly over.
