Pierpaolo Piccioli’s proposition for menswear is simple: sometimes, men want to slouch in what they wear. But this concept of louche is not by any means lazy or juvenile because what it is an attitude. There’s something quite cool about nonchalantly putting your hands  in the pockets of a pair of trousers that pool at your ankles or exploring silhouettes traditionally reserved for women. The big easy, you can call it.

This concept of effortlessness (some might even call it the slacker style of the ’90s or the big and loose) is best demonstrated by Hong Kong digital creator Travis Li is wearing above. Pierpaolo has telegraphed what men really like to wear now — gone are the razor sharp suits — based on the two traits they demand of their clothing. Comfort and individuality.

A nod to Piccioli’s sensitivities: Travis Li straps up with the pillow-like Roman Stud crossbody bag.

Perhaps, it can be said that there’s some quest on each designer out there to tap into a new customer base — the Gen Z-ers or millenials who hold cultural power with just their phones — but the genius of Piccioli is that he’s not forgetting his existing customer base: the real men out there (yes, you, if you’re reading this) who live a real life in your clothing. Your clothes need to be rooted in reality, you constantly are on the move (once again, again Piccioli genius are his deep pockets) and when push comes to shove, you enjoy a uniform. And this uniform, is the Valentino something this season.
