Festive Menus to Treat Yourself and Your Love Ones Right

  • By Marcus Li

The saying “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” should be changed as food is a great key to everyone’s heart. With Christmas nearing, restaurants are upping the ante by creating exciting flavours that reflect the merry spirit. Enter the hearts of your loved ones while warming yours through the gift of taste with these vastly different festive menus. ‘Tis the season to be jolly indeed!

Salt Grill & Sky Bar

Salt Grill & Sky Bar redefines the concept of what a Christmas spread should be, as it is heavily influenced by Chef Jake Kowalewski’s Australian upbringing. Because Christmas in Australia occurs during the summer season, the menu eschews the usual winter fare for a buoyant summer tasting experience that is still fundamentally Christmas-y. Starting off with the Hokkaido Scallop, Nam Jim, Crustacean Oil & Puffed Rice – an experience that defies all your preconceived ideas of Christmas – it is one-upped by the taste of Smoked Potatoes from the Whisky Glazed Wagyu Short Rib, Smoked Potato, Broad Bean & Pickled Cherry. Catch your loved ones off guard with this surprising festive menu that leaves everyone smacking their lips in delight.

Neon Pigeon

Head to Neon Pigeon to celebrate Christmas in an Izakaya (a traditional Japanese bar/pub where finger foods are commonly enjoyed together). The festive menu does a tongue-in-cheek take on traditional Japanese foods, with items such as the Yakiturkey Tare (yakitori is grilled chicken, but here it is turkey) served with a side of Wasabina Leaf Salad (which, if the name hasn’t given the secret away, has a delicious hint of wasabi). The dinner finishes with a glass of Miso Caramel Eggnog served with three Gingerbread Men – a playful mix of salty, sweet and spicy flavours that melds together as you dip the gingerbread into the eggnog. Oishii!

Fat Prince

We all wished for a flying magic carpet after watching Aladdin, but it is a gift that comes far and few. Luckily, Fat Prince’s festive menu is able to transport one to the Middle East for Christmas just as easily. Using turkey marinated in lemon, garlic and yogurt (instead of the traditional chicken), the Shish Tawook Turkey Kebab with Smoked Mashed Potato fits nicely with the festive joy. For a more amiable ambience, reach for Fat Prince’s alcoholic Christmas concoctions like Crimson Crown and Ivory Prince, which consists of Hendrick’s Gin, fresh fruits, spiced wine syrup and red or white wine respectively.

Botanico at The Garage

Located in our UNESCO World Heritage Botanic Gardens, dining at Botanic provides the gift of getting close to nature. Have a tropical Christmas as one dines in Santa’s 1920s Art Dec0-styled cabin, where snow is replaced with flora. With a festive menu inspired by the burning logs of the cabin’s fireplace, look out for the Inka-Grilled Sanchoku Wagyu Rump (presented with spiced roasted potatoes, winter slaw and coriander salsa verde) and remember to save some space at the end for the Quince Christmas Pudding.
