#MFMF13 Songs to Get You into the Halloween Mood

  • By Marcus Li

Before, Halloween was dedicated to remembering the dead and departed. Today, Halloween is a sexy celebratory event for adults and a chance for kids to get a treasure trove of sweets. There are of course other activities, such as carving pumpkins, apple bobbing and watching horror films, all of which would be twice as good with music. Here are some terrific halloween songs (double meaning intended) to improve the trick-or-treating experience.

Michael Jackson / Thriller

This might be the most added song on any Halloween playlist. Its catchy 80s synth instrumentals and lyrics remain relevant in 2018. Coupled with Michael Jackson’s sick dance moves, this music video is probably the most significant one in pop culture. Michael sings about the thrilling night with no light except the moon, reverting society to its primal roots, where monsters of the dark roam free. Resident writer Marcus remembers the horrific time during his childhood when he first saw this music video on MTV (remember when that was a thing?) gave him nightmares for weeks.

The Sam Willows / Robot

Sam Willow’s Robot is a scary mix of Dr Frankenstein, his monster, and George Orwell’s 1984. In a totalitarian society where the populace are brainwashed to follow the status quo like a robot, Benjamin Kheng (Frankenstein) tries to bring back human-ness to the dolls. Depending on which faction viewers are on, Frankenstein, the robots and society are all equally monsters.

LSD / Thunderclouds ft. Sia, Diplo, Labrinth

This sensual song exudes mysteriousness, highlighting the paranoid thoughts and fear of being abandoned or lied to, as anyone should be. It is halloween right now, and if Michael Jackson’s Thriller has taught us anything, it is that maybe the person you are dancing with might be a vampire in disguise. You might be walking prey in a den of deathly monsters, at least you will be surrounded by sexy versions of terror in this crazy imaginative world.

Doja Cat / Mooo!

We might have accidentally found ourselves in the bizarre part of youtube with this video. For anybody who has decided to go trick or treating as a cow, Doja Cat has some tips – become a cannibalistic cow by bringing a cheeseburger along for your night out. Horrific.

Dynoro, Gigi D’Agostino / In My Mind

You find yourself in an American Horror Story party thrown by Madison Montgomery (played by Emma Roberts), the party is sexual, hazy and black. You will be dying later that night (probably having your soul sucked out as you’re making out with Madison), all while this song  plays out in the background. How’s this for a dark fantasy?
