Andy Warhol was arguably one of the earliest practitioners of the modern selfie, from early snaps taken behind dark sunglasses as a short-haired young man, to Polaroids in lipstick and platinum wig a la Marilyn Monroe, and ultimately a series of graphic silkscreens in his final years. The candid documents of Warhol offer glimpses into the enigmatic introvert, and now his iconic Self-Portrait series will serve as the primary print in the Calvin Klein Jeans “Andy Warhol, Self-Portraits” capsule.
“If you want to know all about Andy Warhol, just look at the surface: of my paintings and films and me, and there I am. There’s nothing behind it.” — Andy Warhol
With this, Calvin Klein’s ongoing partnership with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts comes full circle as the pop artist’s legacy makes its way through the brand’s universe, from runway to Underwear and finally Jeans. The latest offering includes heritage-inflected denim, T-shits, hoodies, small accessories and classic canvas high-tops, all printed with the artist’s self-portraits.
