Off-White x Byredo Make Elevator Music

  • By Sapphire Chin

Walking into elevators, the soft melodies surrounding the interior sets you in the mood for what you’re going up/down for. Taking this idea of “elevator music”, longtime friends Ben Gorham of Byredo and Virgil Abloh of Off-White captured a scent that is set to play at the background of your life.

The collaborative “Elevator Music” project reveals a fragrance that no one has ever smelled before, together with a multi-category capsule collection spanning bags and apparel. For this, Abloh and Gorham’s drew inspiration from Swedish scientist Gunnar Johansson’s research on human movement perception and the “elevator syndrome” in the Seventies.

Both Abloh and Gorham wanted a scent that describes emotions; a scent that describes yourself. Having in mind that “less is more”, they created a unique scent that you would have a hard time describing or placing it because it has no value on its own — it requires the wearer to bring it out instead. To have an actual description of the fragrance would be a musky floral.

The “Elevator Music” fragrance and capsule collection are already available at the Off-White Singapore flagship boutique from 4 June 2018, so hurry down to take a look before they are all snapped up.
