Presley Gerber’s Choice: Omega Railmaster

  • By Yong Wei Jian

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. As the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford, Presley Gerber is steadily making a name for himself in fashion and photography by appearing in numerous high-profile runways and campaigns in recent years. And, just like mom, the 18-year-old officially became the new face of Omega in 2017, continuing Crawford’s legacy as the brand’s longest-serving ambassador. Having grown up with a close and personal view of Omega’s timepieces thanks to his mother’s relationship with the brand, the time has finally come for Gerber to make his choice of wrist style.

What’s the best advice you’ve had from your mom?

Don’t do it unless you want to, otherwise it’s not going to turn out good.

You’ve been both a model and a photographer. Which do you prefer?

I can’t actually say I prefer either. It totally depends; both are equally as fun for me. They both have so many opportunities that you can explore with your mind, so both are great and I can’t choose one.

Does a watch help express your personal style?

I absolutely think a watch is still relevant for young men. I don’t wear a lot of jewellery, but I will typically have a watch, not just to tell the time; I have a passion for them, obviously. Yeah the younger crowd is definitely catching back on to the trend.

And what is it about Omega watches that you like?

Omega watches are hands-down the best. That’s kind of the way to go. I mean, I love them.

Where does your style inspiration come from?

My inspiration kind of always came from my dad. But for the broader perspective of all young men, sure if you look up to musicians or anyone you have a passion for, follow their style!

What are three items that every young guy should have in his wardrobe?

A T-shirt, some pants and a pair of shoes. I just wear a shirt, jeans and an Omega watch. There you go.

Can you share your favourite Omega moment with us?

I’d have to say one of my favourite Omega moments was when we all got to go to Hong Kong — my mom, my sister and myself. That was incredible. It was my first time there and we had so much fun. Everyone we were surrounded by, the whole team, was just really fun.

Just as the Constellation famously became “Cindy’s Choice”, Gerber now puts his name to the Railmaster as his pick for the next generation. The handsome tool watch was originally built for railway staff or those who worked in proximity to electrical fields, boasting magnetic resistance of up to 1,000 gauss to preserve timekeeping precision (by comparison, most anti-magnetic watches at the time offered protection at around 60 gauss). Today, the Railmaster is 15 times more impervious thanks to the latest Master Chronometer Calibre 8806, which is certified at the industry’s highest standard by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) to withstand magnetism of 15,000 gauss.

Besides the formidable technical upgrade, the new edition Railmaster also comes with a host of stylistic updates. Its grey or black dial is now vertically-brushed, and features a railway minute track, the Omega “crosshair” symbol of precision, and a “lollipop” central seconds hand. Hour markers filled with aged lume as well as the beige “Railmaster” text reinforce its vintage appeal. True to form, its 40mm stainless steel case has a wave-edged closed caseback, with a patent-pending Naiad locking system for water resistance to 150m. With classic good looks and superb competencies, the Railmaster perfectly holds its own against Gerber’s personal magnetism.
