Many Firsts in Tom Ford’s Debut Fall/Winter’18 Menswear

  • By Rachel Ong

When it comes to serving sex-appeal in fashion, Tom Ford synonymously pops into the minds of many. Hence, at last, we are elated to celebrate the true agent provocateur’s spanking new underwear debut at his first-ever Men’s Fall/Winter’18 stand-alone show held at Park Avenue Amory in New York City.

TOM FORD

At first glance, ardent fans of Ford can easily whiff out foxy masculinity, almost representative to Tom Ford: heavily influenced sharp suiting in 80s ‘Robocop’ sunglasses. Standout pieces include pastel variations of snake skin printed trousers, shearling bomber, and the signature turtlenecks with high shine metallic suit jackets.

TOM FORD

The designer-filmmaker regularly exhibits bold and sensual campaign images and over the years has accustom us with a recognisable essence to his works. On top of Tom Ford beauty, eyewear, accessories and ready-to-wear, Mr. Ford launched his range of trunks to be paired with the very first TOM FORD 001 — the unisex collection of Swiss-made timepieces featuring eight cases in a sleek, rectangular bezel made available in two sizes. It boasts over fifty interchangeable straps in a variety of colours and rich materials: hand-woven braided leather, pebbled grain leather, and alligator. Watch cases have also been made available in 18-karat yellow gold, brushed and polished stainless steel, and a matte black DLC, to support a seamless interchange of straps.

The talk of the town (apart from Ford showing outside of the typical menswear calendar with Raf Simons) is the much-anticipated trunk collection that mimics second skin. It is much  surprise that Ford’s vision for his first underwear line heavily involved an intermix of nude pantones, hinting at the illusion of bareness rather than banging it all out with the flashy tones. The underwear collection features boxers loosely cut in shimmery shades of every skin colour and lustrous animal prints — with the TOM FORD logo waistband in house-signature velvet. All the right ingredients to be attention grabbing yet still looking tasteful.

Playing around the parameters of skin-coloured undergarments and whether you are flashy or the understated, this makes an excellent and necessary addition to your intimates drawer. The complete underwear range will serve to include core styles such as t-shirts and tank tops. The watch collection and underwear collection will be available in March and June respectively in stores and online.
