The Mido Ocean Star Captain becomes a true dive instrument

  • By Yong Wei Jian

Created in 1944, the Ocean Star is Mido’s flagship dive watch built on a foundation of functionality. The collection looked to lighthouses — specifically the Europa Point beacon that watches over the Gibraltar Strait — for values of strength and reliability, and is most recently equipped with titanium and the latest-generation Calibre 80 to reinforce its theme of tool excellence.

The Ocean Star Captain Titanium flaunts the virtues of its namesake material by being lightweight without compromising on robustness, with up to 200m water resistance. It is paired with a clean anthracite dial, with generous lume application on the hands and indexes for clear legibility and orange accents to recall Mido’s identity. Dive-time safety is ensured by the unidirectional rotating bezel, which features a lume pip on its aluminium ring insert. The titanium model is accompanied by several steel styles with blue or black dials, including a dressy two-tone version with rose gold PVD bezel and crown.

The new models are powered by the Calibre 80. Built by ETA, the automatic movement provides 80 hours of power reserve as well as time, date and day indications.
