Prada FW 2016 Stars Eddie Redmayne

  • By Ian Lee

Star power is one thing that Prada’s menswear campaigns have always delivered in waves. Through the years, the brand has handpicked acting talents from both sides of the spectrum, and its visuals have been fronted by unexpected up-and-comers and veritable men-of-the-moment. The roll call of coveted male celebrities includes Takeshi Kaneshiro, Tobey Maguire, James McAvoy and Ethan Hawke. Now, Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne joins the exclusive all-Prada cast.

Redmayne, who won the Academy Award in 2015 for his role in The Theory of Everything (and got nominated again this year for his work in The Danish Girl), was photographed by Craig McDean. He’s no stranger to fashion campaigns, having starred in Burberry’s previously with Cara Delevingne. This time, the actor goes solo. He’s decked in Prada’s Fall/Winter 16 looks, of course – sailor-influenced ensembles with elongated pea coats, tops with flyaway collars that are semi-detached and askew, deliberately cropped pants (that only Prada could perfect), and bunches of ornamental trinkets like keys and reinforced miniature notebooks.

If it’s not thrilling enough that Redmayne is depicted as a rugged seafarer, he also doubles as a Prada-clad time-traveller of sorts. Illustrating the collection’s discourse on past-meets-present, the visuals feature the collection’s prints in collaboration with Christophe Chemin. The Berlin-based French artist’s drawings, which emblazon 50s-style shirts, remix history by hybridizing various notable art pieces through the years.
