Tod’s Supports Colosseum Restoration

  • By Chelsea Tan

Tod’s is not just about pretty shoes. Just five years ago, the Italian label provided the Colosseum (yes, the ancient Roman arena of grandeur and death) with a sponsorship of 25 million euros. The gesture was in appreciation of Italy’s rich cultural history — also in order for them to gain exclusive rights to use the famed stadium for 15 years of advertising. After a gruelling three years of restoration (there were a lot of hiccups and protests), the works are finally nearing completion.

Say hello to new facades, arches and gates. Well, almost new; this is restoration after all, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. The Colosseum is not at its hundred percent yet, however, with passageways and underground vaults being next on the plan. A brand new service centre will also be in the works, to cater to a potential influx of visitors. We can’t say we’re complaining.

Tickets are currently priced at 12 euros, although they are rumoured to cost twice as much during peak periods. In any event, we can’t wait to see the world wonder in its full former glory.
