Louis Vuitton Introduces Men’s Denim Collection

  • By Chelsea Tan

A wise person once said, “Denim never goes out of style.” Or perhaps no one really did (we made it up), but Kim Jones’ – that’s Louis Vuitton Men’s Artistic Director – statement of “denim is the key to any wardrobe” pretty much echoes our sentiment. In a step towards recognising the great invention that is denim jeans (Kim Jones himself is obsessed with vintage jeans), Louis Vuitton is – wait for it – introducing the Men’s Denim Collection.

Looking to Japan and Europe for their authentic denim savoir faire, the permanent collection (yes, you read that right) comes in three fits – classic regular, slim classic and slim stretch fit. A selection of colours and washes will be available, and every piece will feature LV embroidery on the front pocket, the house’s metallic rivets and snaps, yellow topstitching on the inside of the belt and the monogram canvas label (on basic denims) or embossed leather patch (on seasonal denims). I know, exciting.

Of special note is the accompanying launch of the Heritage Denim Capsule. Inspired by the label’s archival trunks, the jeans come in a total of five styles, of which three are limited edition. One harks back to a 1903 copper-covered trunk and comes in a brilliant gold finish, another reinterprets a 1899 trunk in a silver-coated pair, and – the jewel of the collection – plays on a 1936 crocodile trunk. The result: a most opulent pair of jeans made in luxurious crocodile. There are unfortunately only 101 pairs of each available, so don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Only six Louis Vuitton stores sell the Heritage Denim Capsule jeans worldwide, and Singapore’s Island Maison at Marina Bay Sands is one of the chosen few. Come 5 August, you can get your hands on the casual luxe item. We can’t wait.
