Pierpaolo Piccioli Sole Valentino Creative Director

  • By Chelsea Tan

In the current climate of musical chairs plaguing the fashion industry, Maria Grazia Chiuri’s departure from Valentino has left many wondering if her empty seat as Co-Creative Director will be filled in her stead. (She has, after all, been reported to take on the reins at Dior as Artistic Director.) It thus comes as a surprise (or no surprise at all, really, because by now we’re used to the whimsicality of the industry) that her Co-Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli will rise up as sole Creative Director of the label.

It’s a little like the end of an era, for both creative directors have been partners for 17 years together. Before their collaboration in the Italian house of Valentino, they worked together as accessory designers at Fendi.

“After 25 years of creative partnership and of professional satisfactions we gave ourselves the opportunity of continuing our artistic paths in an individual way with the reciprocal desire of further great achievements,” Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli said in a statement together.

We’re a little sad to see the power duo split up, but we wish the best for both of them.
