Dolce & Gabbana Revives Italian Camaraderie For Spring/Summer 2016

Dolce & Gabbana

It’s about time Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana moved on from their folksy Sicilian fantasy. This fall, they explore a darker, more medieval period in Sicily’s past with the invasion of the Norman kings. Gone are the salt-of-the-earth villagers who are replaced by boy-kings who stride proudly in their golden coronets, bejewelled gauntlets and oversized sweatshirts etched with regal portraiture. Behind them, a legion of knights marched in armour, both traditional (coifs and hauberks knitted and studded to mimic chainmail) and modern (sartorial suiting in double-breasted variety). Even the court jesters joined in the glorious butch pageantry, in bold strips of royal reds, golds and blues that represent the rich history of Sicily as it once more takes centre stage in the duo’s designs.
