Hermès
Véronique Nichanian knows understated luxe like the back of her hand. Even when she banished colour from her collection, layering dark tones so seamlessly that everything played out as shades of charcoal grey, the clothes remained as vibrant as ever via their fabrication. Wool jackets and pea coats meld into glossy leather at the hem; hand-knit cashmere shifts randomly from ribbing to cable stitch; phantom leather invades lapels; an embroidered spider swings from its web. It’s all because of Nichanian’s design ethos – “Taking beautiful fabrics one step further” – that the Hermès man no longer craves ostentatious embellishments that would only draw unsolicited attention to his wardrobe.
