Poetry World Cup 2014

  • By Men's Folio

Soccer fans aren’t the only ones gearing up for the competition of the year. The Poetry World Cup 2014, organised by The Missing Slate (an arts and literary journal), sees 32 poets from 32 countries vying for the top spot in a match that riffs off its football counterpart. Chosen to represent Singapore is poet and novelist Desmond Kon Zhicheng-Mingde, who will be launching his novel, Singular Acts of Endearment, at the Singapore Writers Festival later this year. Off to a good start, he has beaten China’s Yuan Chanming to qualify for the next round.
