A yearly affair, Audi Fashion Festival Singapore (AFF) brings her signature white tent back to the shopping belt, parking at extravagant mall, ION Orchard. A defining change is AFF going independent, privately funding the entire shindig. Earlier at the press conference held at ION SKY, the exciting line up was unveiled to a room of eager journalists and media types.
Here are five reasons why the Audi Fashion Festival Singapore 2014 is set to be most exciting to date:
1. AN ASIAN OPENING – PRABAL GURUNG KICKSTARTS THE WEEK
One of New York’s fashion scene’s favourite designers, Nepalese-American, Prabal Gurung will be sending his Fall 2014 collection (inspired when he visited the majestic Himalayas) down the AFF runway. The Singapore-born talent’s focus on innovative designs has seen celebrities such as Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence and Zoe Saldana wearing his designs. In addition, dignitaries such as US First Lady, Michelle Obama as well as The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton have been seen in his dresses too. Besides being one of the fashion world’s darlings, what makes Gurung’s show so special this time round? He would be the opening act for AFF 2014 – the first time the event has had an Asian designer fill this prestigious timeslot.
2. STAR POWER – GODFREY GAO AND KATE BOSWORTH TO ATTEND AFF 2014
We have come to expect a certain level of Hollywood buzz every time AFF comes about. 2014 is no different with the confirmed attendance of actress, Kate Bosworth and Asian male supermodel, Godfrey Gao – a Men’s Folio cover alumni. Expect to see shutterbugs stalking the [email protected] to catch a glimpse of these beautiful people up close.
3. SINGAPORE DARLING – ASHLEY ISHAM RETURNS WITH MENSWEAR COLLECTION
Hot of the success of his most recent London show for Fall 2014, Singaporean designer, Ashley Isham returns to not only present his latest collection, but to showcase his very first menswear collection. Courtesy of skincare brand, SK-II, Godfrey Gao will be taking to the runway in Isham’s designs. In the Mar 2014 issue of Men’s Folio, Isham reveals to us that he was inspired by the luxury of evening wear and has included velvet tuxedo jackets that features hand embellishments, “I decided to do it as there have been many requests for me to start designing menswear. It has been amazing and I see it as a natural progression for me to develop something new within the same design philosophy of my brand.”
4. AMERICAN FASHION ICON – OSCAR DE LA RENTA TO CLOSE THE FESTIVAL
To finish fashion week off with a bang, few deserve the final timeslot more than the legendary, Oscar de la Renta. The 81-year-old master of cocktail dresses will be presenting his Fall 2014 collection – the same one that took the recent New York Fashion Week by storm.
5. FRESH FACES – L’OFFICIEL SINGAPORE PRESENTS THE LASALLE DEGREE FASHION SHOW 2014
