Art Project – The Obliteration Room

Art Project The Obliteration Room.

As part of the Look now, See Forever exhibition at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, artist Yayoi Kusama created the Obliteration Room, every parent’s nightmare and every child’s dream come true. Kusama created a domestic space, with couches, a piano, chairs and tables painted entirely white, creating a large blank canvas. Over the course of two weeks, visitors (and especially young children) were given coloured dot stickers that they could paste anywhere they wanted in the room as part of the interactive project. Giving visitors free reign over the room, the bare white walls were soon obliterated by explosive and vibrant colours that turned the simple idea into a captivating work of art.
