Created to be the “classic of the future”, expect nothing less than timeless elegance from Valentino. Like its fashion collection, it appeals to men who strive for the classic but with a decidedly casual touch. As the House does with fabric, perfumer Olivier Polge uses nothing but exclusive essences and fine materials for his composition. Contained in the glamorous flacon is the notes of bergamot and myrtle that slowly warm to masculine gourmand notes of roasted coffee and gianduja cream that settles to a luxurious base of cedar wood and leather.

The inspiration may be from the prima ballerinas of the English National Ballet whom master perfumer Alberto Morillas went backstage to observe, but Penhaligon’s Iris Prima is anything but delicate and femme. The unisex fragrance is surprisingly raw and animalistic, yet maintaining the structured elegance that defines ballet. Part of his research involves sniffing garments used by the ballerinas, which give rise to the intimate and musky base of sandalwood, vetiver and benzoin sweetened with vanilla. It opens like a performance – bergamot, green amber and sparkling pink pepper capture of the graceful opening act and melts into the crescendo of mid-act: jasmine sambac, hedione and paridisione.

Bottega Veneta Pour Homme is the DNA of the luxury brand distilled in a bottle: understated elegance, luxe refined, rugged and unabashedly masculine. The woody-aromatic leather scent opens with refreshing aromatic notes of Calabrian bergamot, Siberian pine and juniper that warms up to Jamaican pimento, Canadian fir balsam and Mediterranean clary sage, drying down to leather accord and Indonesian Patchouli.

Calvin Klein makes a lighter interpretation of its signature Encounter fragrance. Calvin Klein Encounter Fresh retains the magnetic and masculine vibe of the predecessor, but is contrastingly light and refreshing. The mix of spirit notes – mojito accord – ties back to the original rum notes that dominated the original, blending nicely with fresher notes of Italian bergamot, cardamom and lavender.

Revisiting its intoxicating interpretation of oud in Private Blend Oud Wood, Tom Ford launches two new interpretations of the tropical wood with very distinct directions. Private Blend Oud Fleur fuses three types of roses: Rose Bulgaria Orpur, Rose Absolute Morocco and Rose Absolute Turkey to weave the lushness of the classic flower to a spicy heart of cardamom seed oil, cinnamon bark and ginger. While the Private Blend Tobacco Oud is Ford’s modern interpretation of the Dokha, a blend of tobacco and herbs smoked in secret five centuries ago. It’s a heady mix of warm wood notes with a smooth heart of roasted tonka organic absolute, cistus oil and amber.
