LA STRADA

#01-11, Shaw Centre, 1 Scotts Road, Tel: 6735 6656

www.lastrada.com.sg

Talk about making a comeback. La Strada of shut its door to make room for Annam Vietnamese Restaurant last year, only to reopen with a bang due to overwhelming requests from loyal patrons; and we can see (and taste) why. Tucked in a placid corner of Shaw Centre, the neo-rustic trattoria is back with a more bucolic reincarnation. Drop the calorie counting and savour the dishes for what it is: culinary creations filled with flavours. The amazing service is as you’d expect from a Les Amis property. We absolutely insist that you dip your fork into its unabashedly sinful Carbonara and the Insalata di Burata. It’s so worth the time on the treadmill.

PIDGIN KITCHEN AND BAR

7 Dempsey Road, #01-04, Tel: 6475 0080

www.pidgin.sg

Formerly Pamplemousse Bistro & Bar, restaurateurs Adrian Ling and Cleo Chiang-Liong rebooted the restaurant as Pidgin Kitchen and Bar. Bold and playful, the sharing plates take familiar Western and Eastern dishes and reconstruct them into harmonius hybrids of the two (but just don’t call them fusion). The Chicken Rice Arancini is made of carnaroli rice cooked in chicken fat with an oozing scarmoza cheese centre; and the Lamb Meatballs is a dolled up – and way less messy – version of the bright red-sauced sup tulang. Two thumbs up to the creativity of the amazingly revamped dishes served.
