The collection of paintings that comprises Blazing City is the culmination of the artist’s love affair with Singapore. Iconic Singaporean places and landmarks are seen afresh and come alive in Carrasco’s signature vivid style. Fullerton Hotel, Boat Quay and the Marina Bay area, among others, portrayed in saturated primary colours. Barnadas Huang’s director Weiren Loh quips, “Carrasco’s works are dynamic, powerful and highly complex. His representational works can be viewed as a form of abstraction – the unnatural colours, the structures that are almost immaterial and fleeting.”
The evening preview was attended by 120 specially-invited guests from the glitterati, who soaked up the convivial atmosphere of celebración by applauding the artwork and indulging in a fine selection of Spanish wine and gourmet food. One of the guests gushed, “These (paintings) are astonishing. Carrasco’s signature style has really brought out the vibrance of Singapore. ”
The Guest of Honour was His Excellency Federico Palomera Guez, Spanish Ambassador to Singapore, while VIPs included Agustín Anguera, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Spain in Singapore and HE Syed Hasan Javed, High Commissioner of Pakistan to Singapore, a noted aficionado of Spanish art.
