IN PRINT: Fashion Travels

“Never,” said the street-style pioneer and living legend Bill Cunningham when I asked him if he ever gets tired of fashion week circuit. “It’s all fun,” he added as we made our way inside the Michael Kors show.

I found his reply humbling and inspiring. To hear Mr. Cunningham talk with such enthusiasm, I found myself reassessing how I felt that instant. Here was a man who was more than double my age tirelessly riding his bike to fashion shows to capture on and off runway shots. I’d be schmuck to complain of my privilege of actually going to the shows. It was a life lesson served with childish enthusiasm and glee by a man in his 80s who’s seen it all.

But you have to understand, for all the glamour and gloss associated with fashion week, it is gruelling work for editors and buyers. (I can’t say the same for those who show up to preen and to be seen,. I’ll let you be the judge of that.) From a scientific point of view, watching attendees at fashion shows could very well be similar to observing the reactions of lab rats that are going through a batter of tests.
