Louis Vuitton has finally confirmed what the entire fashion world was expecting – 42-year-old Nicolas Ghesquière replaces Marc Jacobs as the label’s creative director, effective immediately. Using their Twitter account, Louis Vuitton sent out a Tweet yesterday reading, “Louis Vuitton is thrilled to welcome Nicolas Ghesquière as artistic director of the women’s collections.”
Said to be largely responsible for bringing Balenciaga out from obscurity, Ghesquière has made it one of the most coveted labels globally. Louis Vuitton believes that their new creative director will bring “a modern creative vision to the house’s women’s collections, building on the values of refinement, savoir faire and extreme quality.”
“Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration,” Ghesquière said today. “I am very honoured of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great maison. We share common values and a vision.”
Ghesquière is scheduled to present his first collection for Vuitton in March. Such anticipation!
