Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli has been very obvious in letting the whole fashion stratosphere know that they are completely re-interpreting the Valentino brand, and this menswear presentation was no exception. With denim, camouflage and military wear being the overall theme of the collection; the designer duo is treading an already familiar line that the Valentino man has evolved into: a much younger and more energetic entity.
With half the models walking down the runway in bare slippers, the collection had a clear utilitarian feel; from the large denim parkas, to the military-block coats, and the camouflage sweaters, anything a fashionable army-boy needed was there to be drooled over. An oversize denim shirt that was matched with denim trousers and topped off with olive sandals, a perfect outfit for the blazing Singapore summer, especially took us. But perhaps the stand out pieces from the collection were the denim-block suits and coats that walked earlier in the collection; a definite fresh play on the mundane (but classic) denim that brought it up to such a sophisticated level.
With a recent trend surge in military wear worldwide (we know it’s especially happening in Singapore), we can foresee this collection as being a huge hit amongst the younger fans of the Valentino brand; even the classic suits that walked the finale of the show might tickle the wallets out of some of the older Valentino customers. In any case, with a wardrobe like this, you’re sure to command at attention all season long.
