RUNWAY REPORT S/S 14: a Spectrum of Navy at Giorgio Armani

Runway Report A Spectrum Of Navy At Giorgio Armani 4It was another homerun for us here at Men’s Folio as Giorgio Armani presented his namesake label’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection. If you didn’t know or realize it yet, after seeing his presentation you’ll learn that Armani has a consuming love for the color navy; and we aren’t complaining. From the iconic Armani blazers, windbreakers, baseball jackets and even suits, the navy color gravitates an almost sporty feel to the overall mood of the collection; a theme we saw at Gucci yesterday. From the first look alone, a zip-up jacket underneath a particularly heavy looking tweed blazer; we can already foresee an army of Italian varsity boys coming our way.

But these varsity boys weren’t the type that played with basketball or football; these boys would rather spend the day in the Italian sun and go about jet setting on the sandy beaches of Sicily playing polo. They were also very particular with what they wear, for Armani explored heavily on subtle texture in this collection. From the black and white tweeds to the trompe l’oeil pattern printed on some of the knits, the tactile aspect of the clothes just made your hands itchy for a feel. Oh, and for those of you who are looking for pieces with a bit more punch to it, Armani has inject a light but potent dose of cherry tones in this collection, just enough to keep the Armani man from looking too old-fashioned. We’re already looking forward to next-next season already.
