A Muted Edge: Bottega Veneta Fall/Winter 2013

A Muted Edge Bottega Veneta Fallwinter 2013Focusing strictly on tailored suits and coats, the uniform of the Bottega Veneta man for this coming season seems to be very direct. “The clock is ticking,” was the way creative director Tomas Maier started about his collection, “We’re in a fight with time. It’s the one thing we can’t control.” Sure enough, it was a very vague statement to describe a collection, but once we look at the clothes through a more abstract point of view, we can see that he was striking a chord that fundamentally translates into something very absolute. “Back to work, no nonsense,” Maier emphasized.

Just take a look at our favorite, a three-piece phantom grey suit that oozes debonair persona as it stood silently on the display mannequin. From the fabrication (Maier overlapped two different prints on plaid fabric to achieve an almost blurred-motion effect), to the very slim cut that melts on the body so exquisitely, the Bottega Veneta man is always simple with an almost muted edge.

The genius behind this garment was the concealed zip that almost hides the industrial factor to the cardigan, making it just that much more elegant; the word ‘investment’ doesn’t even begin to describe how we feel about some of these pieces; they were basically the epitome of it.

The blend of colors was a refreshing interpretation from the usual humdrum selection the brand sends out season after season; sure it has a very summer feel for a fall/winter collection, but the bag fits perfectly for the Singaporean customers. Shoe wise, Maier has chosen the oxford and found itself re-interpreted in an almost bondage fashion. With the use of thick leather laces that bound around the front, it had a subtle fetishtic manner to it; an irony if you style it together with the suits. But either way, the Bottega Veneta man can rest easy knowing their wardrobe will be kept grounded and real for this season to come.
