#MFMF116: rEmPiT g0dDe$$’s Hypnotic Industrial Dimension

Instead of featuring just the Men’s Folio team’s weekly playlists (you can catch up here), however, we’ve opened up the column to friends, industry mates, and people who we think have the right groove.

Music producer and composer rEmPiT g0dDe$$ shares her playlist of hypnotic, industrial electronic sounds, spiced with a distinctly Southeast Asian flavour. See below for an introduction to her picks:

“My work involves exploring electronic music from the underground scene across Southeast Asia and I have made a selection of Southeast Asian artists with hypnotic and hard electronic music whom I have had the pleasure of knowing while touring.”

Gap — Mervin Wong
Singaporean-based Mervin Wong (violinist, music producer & Punggol BFF) releases his new single – syncopated electronic beats, playfully delayed distorted percussions, gentle violin arrangements, thumping bass and introspective lyricism from fellow collaborator Sal. On repeat!

Ristik — Raissa
One of my personal favourite electronic music genres in contemporary dance music is hard drum — Bali-based DJ and producer Raissa’s production style is precise with an industrial edge, exploring percussive club music in 120bpm with rolling kick drums here.

PANGABISA (NUTUP) — Xin Lie
Bandung-born, DJ and producer, Xin Lie is a musical artist who caught my ears’ during my tour in Indonesia — Xin Lie’s thunderous, deconstructed stomps with warped sub bass and brash melodic synths are unique to South East Asia’s contemporary electronic music.

Aztec Glue — Rắn Cạp Đuôi
Rắn Cạp Đuôi is made up of multi-instrumentalist and composer Phạm Thế Vũ, bassist and producer jung buffalo (aka Đỗ Tấn Sĩ) and multi-instrumentalist and producer Zach Sch from Vietnam. Rắn Cạp Đuôi enthrals their listeners by integrating the essence of Vietnamese traditional sounds into abrupt drone-like music with euphoric percussion and incantations lead in tracks like Aztec Glue.

Ai Cũng Làm Được [Nhạc Gãy Tổng Hợp Số 1] — Puppy Ri0t
Moving on to harder and faster dance music, Vietnam-based experimental DJ and producer, Puppy Ri0t is relentless with bludgeoning gabber kicks, hyped-up distorted leads and erratically pitched vocal samples here. I believe in Southeast Asia’s female producers’ supremacy!

Come Home 2 Me — EFTPOS MINIMUM
I get genuinely excited when I meet young and exciting local electronic music producers at parties in Kuala Lumpur. EFTPOS MINIMUM’s Ezra sings on his breakcore track here — the track is fantastical, gushing, and well-produced with sentimental melodies.
