Dolce&Gabbana Revives the Revolution With Their Pre-Fall 2022 Collection

  • By Charmaine Tan

Dolce&Gabbana brings to life the rebellious fire of the punk rock era in graphic iterations and street-savvy silhouettes for Pre-Fall 2022.

When the punk movement prevailed over the increasingly commercialised rock scene in the mid-1970s, the rebellious spirit of youth soared anew, unbridled in its faith in the unconventional and anti-establishment.

It was the time of the Ramones, Blondie and the Sex Pistols; anarchy was king, and imperfection was perfection. While the period saw its sound go through a purification of sorts, its dressing welcomed chaos and deconstruction. Safety pins and frayed denim became a blank canvas for the new and old, as well as the high and low, and anything else that was unorthodox was celebrated. Authenticity became the holy grail — a fearless attitude well understood and championed by Dolce&Gabbana, today’s aficionado of the bold.

Not one to take the easier way of doing things, the Italian house revives familiar sights of this era for its Pre-Fall 2022 collection in monochrome, situating its street silhouettes in modern, graphic iterations. Shot against four walls of a black-and-white leopard print, pin-striped, notch-lapel suits bend genres with sneakers, while distressed skinny jeans accompany tops and a quilted bomber jacket with a distinctive Damier bandana print.

A tracksuit is also dipped fully in the iconic DG graffiti. Dolce&Gabbana’s maximalist tendencies are further leaned into chunky boots and a beret that flaunts studs, pins and pearls, while thick, geometric sunglasses and chains are adorned to complete the looks with resounding conviction.
