#TheDrip — Saint Laurent’s Opulent Pear Rhinestone Choker In Metal

Each week, we dive into the vast archives of our favourite brands and houses to extract and share their most luxurious (and thus, pricey) miscellanea. This week, our drip of choice is Saint Laurent’s pear rhinestone choker in metal.

A little rock, a little punk but always with some sex appeal, Saint Laurent’s design language has always been exquisitely simple yet intoxicatingly desirable. Beyond the itty bitty silhouettes, it’s in the details that creative director Anthony Vaccarello persists a commitment to the sexy; sharper edges and sheerer fabrics have become two of the few ways to distinguish this French House’s garments and accessories from another’s.

Just take Saint Laurent’s pear rhinestone choker in metal for example. What looks like pear stones going back and forth between its base and tip sides are actually an alternation of pear and marquise-shaped rhinestones, the jagged effect simulating a choker of animal teeth or studs that are no stranger to this genre of fashion.

The thin, coiling chains are reminiscent of barbed wires, but also very clearly acts as the string that connects the subculture influences with the more luxurious expression of Saint Laurent’s identity.

But beyond its design specs, this choker will lay daintily around the neck, the many small, cloudy grey rhinestones a subtle addition of shimmer that only turns grungy upon close inspection. Anthony Vaccarello takes after Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent legacy like that — both creative directors are unafraid to lean into the overtly masculine or feminine to subvert that effect in ways only privy to those who care to look.

It’s like a secret love affair, only Vaccarello’s romance is more cinematic and dramatic as compared to Slimane’s street style approach.

That being said, this rhinestone choker is an icy neck piece that works great as a gift to the self or for your special one. If it’s for you, both formal or casual attires are a great contrast to this natural scene-stealer. But if it’s for your special one, rest assured, its suggestive collar look will still keep all your dirty little secrets hidden in plain sight.
