The concept of vVARDIS — a Swiss oral care brand — is simple (we’ll let them explain what biomimetic compounds mean). Its founders Haley and Goly are aware that having a dentist drill your teeth is something that can scare even the most testosterone-filled of men and also, that the teeth ages along with the body. Basically, the healthier your mouth, the healthier your body.

Here, they take us through what makes vVARDIS such a gamechanger one desensitised, strengthened, and whitened tooth at a time.

So, for first-time interviewees I’m meeting, I usually like to get them to pitch their business in 10 words or less. If the both of you could entertain my request…
It’s the first brush-on treatment for caries that doesn’t need a drill.

Let’s get the superficialities out of the way first. The products are really beautiful and I’m talking MOMA gift shop beautiful. What was the design consideration when it came to designing vVARDIS products?
The Swiss Alps are the birthplace and inspiration for our products. We are inspired by the simplicity and beauty of nature and wanted to reflect that in our product design. The Alps also represent vVARDIS’s commitment to making sustainable, clean products that are good for our ecosystem.


Sustainability is central to our brand. All of our wood, paper products, and secondary packaging are made from FSC-Certified wood which is the gold standard designation for wood harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, environmentally conscious, and economically viable.

Our toothpaste comes in a wood tube which is made from 95% renewable resources and utilizes sawdust. All products are 100% vegan and sustainably produced in Switzerland.

What was the brain wave that led to the founding of vVARDIS then?
Our goal has always been to motivate people to take care of their oral health and to close the gap between holistic and conventional oral medical traditions. As doctors, dentists, researchers, and mothers, we know that when your mouth is healthy, your body follows.

Caries are the number one disease in the world. Bad oral health can lead to serious health problems like heart attack, stroke, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and even miscarriages. We wanted to develop products using cutting-edge biomimetic technologies that can prevent cavities and also treat caries without the need for drilling.

In the past, tooth decay could only be treated with needles and drills and now, we use the safest and best quality ingredients that are good for the health of your teeth as well as your overall health.

In my opinion, the strongest selling point of the brand is the use of biomimetic compounds. Could you both explain what exactly it does?
Thanks to our patented technology, the tooth creates new white enamel the way it naturally does: out of the minerals of your saliva. We are the first anti-aging ritual for teeth and this is absolutely revolutionary! The enamel is the hardest tissue in our body and is the only tissue without living cells which is why it can’t regenerate itself like bones or skin.

Biomimetic, in a nutshell, means that we imitate a natural process. In our case, the natural process we imitate is that of tooth creation. When we are children, our mouth contains amino acids that work with calcium and phosphate (which are already present in our saliva) to create a substance called hydroxyapatite — the chemical name of enamel. Once our first teeth have started to grow through, our mouth loses the amino acid that generated the initial tooth-creation process.

What our vVARDIS technology does is that it replaces this natural ingredient in the form of a peptide. This then initiates the attraction of calcium and phosphate from the saliva to create hydroxyapatite again, and thus, forms new white enamel. This is another reason why we call it the anti-aging technology for oral care — using vVARDIS products regularly can help reverse the ageing process of the enamel by constantly replenishing hydroxyapatite.


Could the use of vVARDIS products ever eliminate the need to see a dentist? That question is based on my assumption that its user already has good oral health.
Absolutely not. As dentists ourselves, we fully understand the absolute need for everyone to visit the dentist regularly whether you have good oral health or not. This is because a lot of what happens in the body will emulate first in the mouth. When you see your dentist, they aren’t just checking in on your teeth!  They are checking your oral health and much more.

However, vVardis technologies will help with avoiding things people are most afraid of about the dentist: the drilling! Dentists want to help their patients and provide therapy for the disease that they see. When the option that they have is a filling then that’s what they are going to do. Our technology enables the treatment of tooth decay with just one pain-free application from a dental professional that involves no drilling on injection required.

The same technology is also in our daily products and will help keep your mouth and teeth healthy but it needs to be accompanied by a balanced lifestyle — being sure to keep snacking to a minimum (especially with sugar and food or drinks that contain citrus).

What is next for vVARDIS then?
Thanks to great partnerships like with CareQuest in the United States, we are treating millions of children and adults with our drill-free technologies. This is a big milestone for vVARDIS with our vision to improve the oral and overall health of the population.

We want first to have our technology be known in Asia and Singapore is the best place to start as oral health is a very serious matter for the country. In general, Singaporeans are much more conscious compared to others about their oral care and we are so proud to share vVARDIS technology with them here.
