For the 2015 advent of Watches & Wonder, Panerai Officine has reintroduced two new interpretations of the Radiomir 1940 timepiece. As the label’s first military diver’s watch, the Radiomir 1940 recalls a fundamental moment of change in Panerai’s design history, where the cushion case of the 1936 Radiomir edition was transformed into the imposing Luminor 1950 case with the signature crown-protecting device Panerai is known for. Exemplifying the style in the years between the two historic world wars, the modern Radiomir 1940 now ascends into the contemporary era with the Radiomir 1940 3 Days Acciao 42mm and the Radiomir 1940 3 Days Oro Rosso 42mm.
Fot with the new calibre P.1000 hand-wound movement with a three-day power reserve, the watches are available in steel or red gold. Beautifully versatile and strong in personality, the new Radiomir editions’ now extended power reserve also comes with a system for stopping the balance while the operating seamlessly with the capability to return the second hand back to zero, allowing the watch to be fully synchronised with the reference time signal.
Designed with a sandwich structure, the timepieces flaunt the intricate movement through the watch’s backing, while the dial is sleek and classic in black. The Aciaio edition is the more flamboyant of the duo, with a light green alligator strap likened to the Super-LumiNova, while the Oro Rosso’s refined form shines through in its red gold and black leather combination.
