Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2015: An homage to Christopher Nemeth

  • By Men's Folio

Louis Vuitton’s Kim Jones paid homage to cult figure Christopher Louis Nemeth – a man he considers the most important designer London has seen – in the label’s Fall-Winter ‘15 menswear showcase.

While Jones is an ardent fan of Nemeth’s works, the rest of the world has hardly been exposed to his genius since his move to Japan in 1986. An arts graduate turned fashion designer, Nemeth reconstructed old suiting with his signature nascent, deconstructed style. His creations embodied the soul of the British capital in the early ‘80s.

It was this spirit of creativity and craftsmanship that Jones set out to translate in the Fall/Winter 2015 Men’s collection. Jones chose four original prints from Nemeth’s archives and reproduced them on key pieces of the season. Determined to present a wholesome tribute, he also roped in Nelle Hooper, a friend of Nemeth’s to create a soundtrack of his favourite tunes. Models paraded down the runways in a shearling coat laser-etched in a Nemeth pattern, a cashmere sweatshirt embossed with cork and denim overlaid with paper patterns.

Jones certainly has the world buzzing about Nemeth’s iconic patterns. Christopher Nemeth is certainly a stranger no more.
