We don’t know if you’ve noticed but there’s a sudden resurgence of rock’n’roll that’s literally raging against the machine of mumble rap or the unique tunes YouTube celebrities are belting. It might be due to the sudden drop of “The Dirt” on Netflix — a biopic on the “the world’s most notorious rock band” Mötley Crüe or it might also be the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll stills burning within us despite not having to live out our rock star dreams.
Who better to ignite it than the guest editor of our August ’19 issue, Benjamin Kheng and fellow musician Nathan Hartono, both of whom utterly possess the irrepressible dynamism, boldness, and effervescence of superstars.
Benjamin Kheng croons to the Jailhouse Rock ala Elvis Presley in a Diesel denim jacket and silk shirt coupled with a TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 11 in steel with leather strap.
The king of rock — Freddie Mercury comes alive through Nathan Hartono who’s decked out in a pair of Diesel denim jeans, Ray-Ban metal sunglasses, Hermès silk scarf and Hublot’s Big Bang Unico White 42mm in titanium with rubber strap.
God Save the Queen
A Diesel cotton jacket and jeans, a Gucci studded leather suspender worn as a choker and Zenith’s Defy Classic Black Ceramic with rubber strap — Nathan’s homage to Sid Vicious from the Sex Pistols.
Smells like Teen Spirit
The ’91 rock hit sung by Kurt Cobain effortlessly portrayed by Benjamin Kheng in a Loewe wool hooded sweater with fur trim, Sandro cotton top, Diesel jeans, Oliver Peoples acetate sunglasses and a Bell & Ross BR V2-92 Military Beige watch in stainless steel with NATO strap.
Ground control to Benjamin and his David Bowie impression — the silk shirt and earring is by Gucci, the silk scarf is by Hermès and the Heritage Automatic in red gold with an alligator strap is by Montblanc.
Imagine all the people and imagine Nathan as the modern day John Lennon — he’s wearing an Ermenegildo Zegna XXX cashmere turtleneck sweater, Sandro corduroy pants, and Emporior Armani metal sunglasses. The timepiece is Omega’s De Ville Trésor in Sedna gold with an alligator leather strap.
