Dressing Up for Singapore Design Week

  • By Jocelyn Tan

As we venture onto remaining crumbs of February and move onward to March, Singapore Design Week remains one of the keystone local events for this first first half of the year. A tribute to all the designers and artists who are unafraid to venture forth into the unknown, we believe there are no failed experiments in fashion, only experiments with unexpected outcomes. In a space full of creative energy, the last thing you want to do is stick out in norm-core attire. With experimentation being the norm, these are our top references for how to dress at the Singapore Design Week.

Comme des Garçons Homme Plus

This playful number resembles a colourful sweet wrapper: with unconventional colours and prints paired with a military-esque facade. Wear them separately or together for a loud entrance, one thing’s for sure: it is sure to keep heads turning.

Raf Simons

“Like when kids hang out, carrying their beers.” Simons puts a witty twist on six pack rings with this punk style reminiscent of misspent youth and this piece seems almost illegal to wear on its own along Singaporean streets. Pair this with an undershirt below for a look that will keep your friends asking, “where’s the beer?”

Dries Van Noten

Rainy days spell gloomy indoors with hotpot, but DVN proves otherwise with this striking coat. Not only reserved for gloomy monsoon seasons, the summery colours on this lollipop-like piece proves experiment for the eyes and also tolerance for our tropical heat.

Juun J

If the world is a blank canvas and one is merely a small part of it, take it up a notch with oversized sweaters from Juun J. With precise and detailed stitching, the sweaters almost seems painted on, making one look 10 times more artistically-inclined instantly. Together with its loose fit, this experiential piece is an eye-opener to say the least.
