TAG Heuer Carrera x Fragment

  • By Yong Wei Jian

Hiroshi Fujiwara is no stranger to collaborations, having spent the past decade subtly disrupting the fashion zeitgeist through partnerships with his design agency Fragment. Now, the Japanese designer brings his disruptive touch to horology in a team-up with proponent of Swiss avant-garde TAG Heuer.

Upon learning the history of the legendary Carrera, Fujiwara selected the first TAG Heuer Carrera chronograph to adapt into a Fragment-style masterpiece. The original 1963 model was an immediate success thanks to its revolutionary dial design, featuring a chapter ring with seconds scale for the first time.

The Fragment remake keeps most of the original specifications, with a sleek black-on-black display for the dial and chronograph counters. White lacquered counter hands, beige indexes and a silver flange provide monochromatic contrast. Powered by the Calibre Heuer 02 automatic manufacture movement, the watch comes in a 39mm stainless steel case with a screw-down sapphire case back, and is strapped with a black leather bund or black and grey NATO strap.

“We created something people are not necessarily expecting to find in TAG Heuer’s current collection,” explained Fujiwara. “There aren’t many new watches I’d want, but I’m sure about this one!”
