Spellbinding Clubs to Hit This Halloween

  • By Khoo Yong Hao

31 October – the day that not only beckons the arrival of spine-chilling, cold winter winds but also the souls of the damned to run amok in the world. The celebration of Halloween, or Hallow’s Eve, originates from the Celtic new year, which marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, or the “darker half” of the year. During this period, it is believed that the boundaries between the living and the dead become blurred and so the spirits come out to play in a night chock-full of supernatural activity. However, one does not need to be superstitious in order to enjoy the festivities of the mainstream celebration. From horrifying costumes to freaky stage acts, these clubs fully immerse their party-loving crowd in all the rites and rituals of Halloween.

Zouk: Boogie Wonderland

Zouk’s party-goers are warned to keep up with the beat this Halloween, lest they find themselves clambering for dear life when all hell breaks loose. Based on an old wives’ tale, the theme of Zouk’s annual Halloween party follows the story of the Discopath, a dance-crazed murderer who dismembers the body parts of his victims. If one doesn’t want a similar fate to befall them, then they are strongly advised not to stop dancing. This shouldn’t pose a problem though, because era-appropriate soundtracks and EDM will be the auditory motivation throughout the hectic night. Those who come in flashy outfits will also be duly rewarded with the inclusion of the $3200 best-dressed prize. Kitschy installations, an LED-lit mini dance floor and roving performances are all set up for the picture-perfect backdrop to one’s rowdy night.

Bar Rouge x Belvedere: In The Woods – A Halloween Edition

Wander too long in the desolate woods of Bar Rouge and one will find that they are not truly alone after all. With werewolves, ghouls and witches hot on one’s trail, the adrenaline-pumping night will be fuelled by intoxicating concoctions such as the camper’s bonfire cocktail, with an impressive array of lights and groovy tunes bombarding the brave souls wherever they go. Extra points for those who suit up for the theme “In The Woods”, as they are granted free entry for both of the nights, and best dressed guests will also stand a chance to win lucrative prizes, so dust off that fur coat and perfect that blood-curdling howl.

All fun and games at a carnival? Not this one. LuLu’s Halloween surprise takes the form of a Carnival of the Absurd, where the wildest nightmares manifest and take form. Bongo drums, drag queens and burlesque dancers are nothing new under the sun for LuLu’s but this year, freaky ballerina dancers and unnerving ringmasters up the ante. If one needs a breather, sip on the specially crafted Halloween Caramel Apple cocktail along with various bar bites to brave through the night. Thankfully, the frights continue till 6am in the morning so one can seek refuge in the comfort of the rising sun.

Like a scene ripped straight out of Ripley’s Believe It or Not, CÉ LA VI transforms from a grandiose restaurant nestled in the clouds into a provocative S&M dungeon. Watch in horror as contortionists, fire dancers, sword swallowers and exotic dancers perform death-defying stunts, while one kick back and enjoy a swig of alcohol. Come dressed in latex jumpsuit (we don’t judge, to each their own) as the best looks stand a chance to win a Magnum R de Ruinart Brut Champagne bottle. If one has yet to decide on their killer look, here are some Halloween ideas that are bound to catch the eyeballs.
