#MFMF8: 10 TURNING 10

  • By Akashdeep Bal

Men’s Folio Music Fridays (#MFMF) brings you a range of weekly music updates, providing you with fresh new tracks or generally just great music to jam to. Whether you’re staring out the bus window pretending to be in a music video, or getting ready for a night out in the town, we have the perfect playlist featuring our favourite Singles, EPs and Albums.

This week we’re covering 10 albums turning 10 that are iconic in its own right. Join us on this nostalgic trip!

10. T.I. / Paper Trail

T.I’s sixth studio album Paper Trail gave him his first and second #1s, while he gave us songs that we will forever go back to.

9. Adele / 19

Before Adele gave us the album of the century 21, we were given 19, an honest and profound debut.

8. Katy Perry / One Of The Boys

“I Kissed A Girl” was Katy’s first proper pop song that skyrocketed her to success, and she has been climbing ever since.

7. MGMT / Oracular Spectacular

MGMT’s psychedelic electro-pop is not for the typical pop listener, but it is on the “1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die” list.

6.Britney Spears / Circus

Having done the whole dark-pop era with Blackout, the Princess of Pop made a comeback that contained bops that will still be banging in 2028.

5. Madonna / Hard Candy

Moving on to the Queen of Pop who blessed us with “4 Minutes”, a track that got us rushing to save the world while mumbling “TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK”.

4. Coldplay/ Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends

Grammy-winning album and best-selling album of 2008 – that says it all.

3. Kanye West / 808’s & Heartbreaks

A drum and synth heavy album that remains relevant in 2018; one we could never imagine our lives without.

2. Beyoncé / I Am… Sasha Fierce

Towards the end of 2008, if you weren’t yelling “All the single ladies / Now put your hands up” while simultaneously ruining the whole video choreography, were you really living?

1. Lady Gaga / The Fame

A game-changing debut by the mother of all monsters that elevated her to become a household name.
