Silver Lining: Rado X French Designer Philippe Nigro

  • By Yong Wei Jian

This year, Rado introduces an exclusive designers’ series with six indomitable creatives from around the world, each applying their singular vision to the signature True collection. For the third selection, French industrial designer Philippe Nigro makes an understatement in the Rado True Cyclo.

High-tech ceramic is fundamental for Rado, and True Cyclo impresses that through carefully considered contrasts: juxtaposing the surfaces of the matt black case and silver dial, and also pairing it with a simple black leather strap (the only strap option in the series). The concave dial is kept stark and neutral to emphasise the time, which includes the grey-hued hands, rounded and recessed indexes, as well as the circular date aperture.

“Rado’s state-of-the-art technology and performance are best expressed in its high-tech ceramic material,” remarks Nigro. “I wanted to use it in the simplest way to allow it to express itself, so I decided to use a ceramic with a dark, matt appearance for the case. I found that this combination expresses all the elegance, organic qualities and technology of the material.” The former Maison&Objet designer of the year is well-versed in creating furniture, products and interior scenography that are discreet yet powerful.

“I love the clean simplicity of the True Cyclo,” says Rado CEO Matthias Breschan. “This is a timepiece that radiates an air of purpose and versatility. Philippe Nigro’s vision of minimalism is a perfect addition to the Rado collection.”

Limited to 1001 pieces, the Rado True Cyclo sees French designer Philippe Nigro’s minimalist take on Rado’s high-tech ceramic construction. Available at Rado Boutique, Marina Bay Sands, #B1-86.
