Diesel has just gotten even more fearless and audacious in its approach towards its specialty material, denim. Stemming from artistic director Nicola Formichetti’s desire to champion fresh design talent in the fashion industry, the new Denim Lab takes the humble jeans to new places with the wild imagination of these new talents.
“Denim is the most important part of what we stand for,” says Formichetti. “And we want to keep pushing the Diesel DNA forward with material innovation, technology and new shapes. We’ve created a laboratory of denim experts to produce our first collection, which will continue to evolve as new personalities join the project,” he adds.
London-based, Paris-born designer Faustine Steinmetz, known for her intricate reworking of denim and classic pieces, is the key talent involved in the Denim Lab studio this season, creating pieces that Formichetti says “point to the direction of the future”. This first Denim Lab collection features both menswear, womenswear and a small range of accessories – and the pieces come in washes from light blue to indigo and black. Expect jackets, T-shirts, jeans and caps made of denim that is ‘erased’ in parts, with a vanishing devoré effect.
