Any Dolce & Gabbana show is a buzzy affair, but its Spring/Summer 2017 affair was even more so — courtesy of a slew of special guests. Lining the front row were the brand’s new breed of VIPs: social media darlings including actors Cameron Dallas (@camerondallas, 18.5 million followers on Instagram) and Austin Butler (@austinbutler, 1.4 million followers), stylist Luka Sabbat (@lukasabbat, 360,000 followers), and musician Gabriel-Kane Day-Lewis (@gabrielkane, 60,000 followers). Weibo’s influencers were not forgotten, as Chinese actors Han DongJun and Huang Jingyu added their celebrity wattage to the front row.
And to prove the brand really means (social media) business, the show opened with Presley Gerber, donning a lean polka dot suit. Yes, he’s Cindy Crawford’s son, aka @presleygerber with 243,000 followers on Instagram. Then came Jude Law’s son, Rafferty Law (@raff_law, 26,000 followers), who happens to be model sensation Lucky Blue Smith’s #bff. Explaining the decision to place well-connected millennials on the runway, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana say they want to communicate in a way that everyone is most familiar with. “These young men have power in their hands, thanks to their smartphones,” they say.
