Hafiz Sohaimi Wins Men’s Folio Designer Of The Year 2016

  • By Henry Boen

October and November must have been two of the most nerve-racking months of the year for both our Men’s Folio Team and the top 10 finalists for Men’s Folio Designer Of the Year 2016, who were announced back in September 2016. After a rigorous judging process by a panel of well known personnel in the fashion industry – such as Textile & Fashion Industry Training Centre (TaF.tc) senior design consultant and trainer Thomas Tan, freelance creative director and stylist Jerome Awasthi, Heart Media CEO and publisher Olivier Burlot, and Men’s Folio fashion director Titien Wang, only one talented individual managed to edge out the competition and emerge as the victorious winner.

Congratulations to Hafiz Sohaimi!

The collection speaks for itself. Inspired by the Hippie movement and The Peacock Revolution, Hafiz reflected his interpretation on this year’s theme of ‘British style of the mods in the mid 60’s to the early 70’s’ in his detailing. From the playful paisley fabrications to the fringing details, the collection took on the blend of minimalism, practicality, and a youthful style. The collection, made with quality craftsmanship, also came with a matching vest-like harness, a tassel scarf, and self-made suede hats. “I wanted to juxtapose the masculine and the feminine. Colour palette wise, I wanted to be quite simple, so I concentrated on hints of blue.” Hafiz added.

Hafiz Sohaimi will receive the prize of a TaF.tc scholarship along with a special feature on the upcoming Men’s Folio December/January issue.
