Loewe Furniture: Marquetry in Leather

  • By Chelsea Tan

Should anyone argue that fashion has nothing to do with art, point them to the direction of Jonathan Anderson. After a stint with the Salone del Mobile Furniture Fair in Milan last year with a series of ceramics-inspired leather bowls, Loewe’s Creative Director embarks on an even larger collection this year – with art. We’re not talking about clothes, however; it’s a conquest of furniture for this year’s reprisal of the Salone del Mobile Furniture Fair.

As with things Loewe, the furniture pieces aren’t mere ordinary creations. Best described as a radical approach to the ancient concept of marquetry, each piece of oak furniture is crafted with leather and adorned with archival prints and patterns dating from the 20th century. It’s past meets present, and so very charming at that.
