Gold Rush: Tom Dixon Hennessy X.O

  • By Rachel Ang

In celebration of Hennessy’s 250th birthday, the world’s largest cognac house unveils the Hennessy X.O Exclusive Collection 2015, designed by prominent and self-taught designer Tom Dixon. A fitting follow up to the platinum silver and deep copper bottles that were revealed in 2014 and 2013 respectively, this third installment of the three-year collaboration, a bright gold rendition of the iconic Hennessy X.O carafe, culminates in a suitably brilliant finale to round up what Hennessy likes to refer to as the triptych of new designs.

Dixon, who was awarded the prestigious title of Designer of the Year two years back at the Maison & Objet Paris, recreated the iconic limited edition expression of ultimate luxury with the purpose of embodying Hennessy’s pioneering and visionary spirit. The elegant shell yields a surface that is textured by a repeated pattern of polygons. The symmetry of this motif and the glints from the reflective surface exude an air of perfect refinement that is worthy of Hennessy’s rich heritage.

Throughout the years, Hennessy has built up a legacy for itself with its extra old cognac. Sporting the bold aromas of oak, old leather and black pepper, Hennessy X.O offers an unforgettable experience of seemingly polar taste profiles – robust but balanced, classic but stimulating – with an extraordinarily long finish that is perfect for savouring the complex brandy before you go back to the glass once again for another wonderful sip.

As with the previous two editions, the Hennessy X.O Exclusive Collection 2015 bottle comes together with a structured box that features the same pixelated design, a magnificent case to protect its precious cargo and which makes the entire package weigh almost like real gold. However, for collectors who have been following the collaboration throughout its three years, Dixon has finally designed a gemstone-shaped display piece that functions as a splendid showcase for all three of his designs. However, it might be worthwhile to note that this limited edition creation is only available in 30 pieces in the entire world. So if you had the foresight to come into possession of this exclusive trilogy, it’s time to act fast and get your hands on one of these resplendent beauties before they’re all snapped up.
