Donatella’s Autumn/Winter 2014 collection harks back to the roaring 90’s when Versace – then helmed by the late Gianni – was the house of rock and roll. Denim and leather in shades of black and vivid red, accented with gold details, are key looks in the biker and cowboy inspired collection. Gianni’s DNA was clearly evident in the form of Versace classics such as the iconic Medusa logo and Barocco prints that were given a contemporary reinterpretation. The biker theme was developed quite literally with prints featuring a collage of motorcycle cut-outs and appliqué patches embellished with classic Versace hardware such as chains, studs and Medusa heads. Clearly not for the faint-hearted, this strong and quintessentially Versace collection is being touted by Donatella as one that bestows “the freedom to be whoever you want to be, in the face of all the oppression in the world right now”.
