Zhao Lei: Shanghai Tang’s latest ace

  • By Men's Folio

Standing at a towering 188cm, Zhao Lei is currently one of the few Asian models making wave at the almost-always whitewashed fashion circuit. With his enviable chiseled face and intense glare, its no wonder this Chinese native is charming all the major designers and magazines into putting him in the middle of the spotlight.

Originally had dreams of becoming a doctor, his studies for a medical degree were put to a halt after his sudden success in modeling. His first big international recognition was for Prada’s S/S 10 campaign and its short film “First Spring” by director Yang Fudong, quite a big feat for a new model, let alone an Asian one.

Ever since his meteoric debut, he has had a constant presence on the editorial circle and is a regular mainstay on all the latest runway shows; he has appeared in GQ China, Vogue Homme Japan, L’Officiel Hommes and walked the runways of big-named designers such as Giorgio Armani, Vivienne Westwood and Dolce & Gabbana.

For Fall/Winter 2013, he makes an appearance as the face of Shanghai Tang. Easily identifiable, Zhao Lei brings his sexy allure to the campaign and can easily convince onlookers into buying the collection. I know we were.
