The resurgence in popularity for Hong Kong brand Shanghai Tang has definitely caught the attention of Men’s Folio’s radar. Well known for bringing an oriental twist to modern cuts, their Fall/Winter 2013 collection stood out to us in more than just clothes; it was about the fine harmony between Eastern ideals with Western sensibility.
The garment themselves were extremely commercial; very classic pieces that has an immortal life in your wardrobe. Abstract floral blazers made from jersey, a hybrid of a classic wool blazer with nylon puffer sleeves, graphic geometric prints on Chinese silk scarves; the balance between East versus West was made very obvious.
But even with all the wearable pieces hanging in the racks, the unanimous favorite piece for us at Men’s Folio were the Ikat geometric print scarves done in three different color combinations. We found fabrics to be extremely versatile; able to add flair to a monochromatic wardrobe, or add an ethnic touch to a modern outfit.
For those of you who are a fan of the Eastern heritage, Shanghai Tang definitely proves that old ancestry can be incorporated into contemporary dressing; and we love that they stick behind this philosophy very faithfully.
