Christopher Kane and PPR have signed an agreement which will see the French conglomerate snap up a majority share of the eclectic fashion label. The deal will enable the business to develop in partnership with its namesake creator, Scottish designer Christopher Kane.

Breaking the news to Style.com about the deal, Kane said: “It’s quite something. I think I’m going to celebrate tomorrow. It still feels surreal. I’ve been told to stay quiet for so long that I almost feel wrong talking about it.”

According to official accounts of the transaction, Christopher Kane was first contacted by PPR CEO and husband of Salma Hayek, François-Henri Pinault. Negotiations lasted for a year—during which rumours became rife that Kane was in the running to replace Nicolas Ghesquière as creative director at Balenciaga, also a PPR-owned company. (Of course, we all know now that Alexander Wang eventually scored that gig.)

For Christopher Kane himself, the deal will have a positive impact on his personal life. The designer had help running the business from his sister Tammy, but now that some of the practicalities will be taken over by PPR, the endearingly close siblings will have more time for each other again.

“Now she’ll be with me again,” Kane said.
