And we thought they would sell like well, pills on a shady street corner. A day after their official release on Just One Eye, there are still specimens of Damien Hirst’s trippy collaboration with the Olsen girls to be had—for US$55,000 apiece.
The fashion world’s sullen, straggly-haired wunderkind duo’s much-hyped “wearable art” project with the art scene’s equally notorious enfant terrible was supposed to set off a buying frenzy among the one percenters when they went “live” on luxe e-tailer Just One Eye on the suitably bombastic launch date of 12.12.12.
Well, we’re regular perusers of the online boutique, and we were surprised to see the bag still available on the site post-December 12, given that the “capsule” collection consists of just 12 one-of-a-kind, one-off designs (besides the most flamboyant pill-covered black crocodile version, there are nine other styles to choose from, all vaguely Yayoi Kusama-esque in their uninspired, polka-dotted composition.)
In case you need that extra nudge to part with your cash, here’s the kicker: Damien Hirst has said proceeds from the sale will go towards UNICEF, which means impoverished children will get actual prescription pills in exchange for your fake ones.
